This week has been crazy busy. And, I seriously mean CRAZY! Since starting this new job, I have to get all of my Avon stuff done during the day. Of course, NOW is when things are really starting to pick up for me with Avon and I am really seeing some decent money off of it. SO, rather than have to work this extra job for very long, I have been working my bootay off trying to get things really going for it. Which means lots of walking, talking, and driving. And the kids come with me.
Bryce has been asking since Monday if he could go to the pool to swim. Every day, I have told him that we will go, if there is time. Of course, every day, we have been running around, getting books out, meeting with people, and making deliveries. When we get home, they are tired and both of them have napped every day this week (a rare event for BOTH to WANT to nap, let alone actually sleep). By the time they wake up for their naps, I have had dinner going and am ready for work. Normally, I would have asked Trav to take them to the pool, but, he has been in Minneapolis this week and I have had a sitter watch the boys for me while I am at work. So, no pool time. Yesterday was rainy and crappy and, when we drove by the pool, I saw it was open, but there weren't many people there. Bryce said he REALLY wanted to go swimming and I had to explain that I would love to take him but the wind was too rough and it was pretty chilly out with the rain. I was determined we would get to the pool today. Especially since this afternoon was gorgeous.
So, we got up early, got the house picked up and laundry going. Played outside for a bit and then had lunch. Since the pool doesn't open until 1:00, I made sure we had lunch cleaned up and they were in their suits and ready to go a little after 1. We loaded up in the truck and headed over. As I drove down the street to the pool, I noticed how oddly vacant the parking lot was.
"Uh oh, guys, this doesn't look good."
Bryce: "Why? What's wrong?"
Me: *feeling like the worst mother in the world* "I think the pool is closed."
Bryce: *looking quite sad* "But it's not raining!"
Sure enough, as I parked in front of the gate to the pool, I noticed that the kiddie pool was completely empty of water and they were in the process of emptying the big pool. *sigh*
Me: "Well, let's go home and we can swim with bubbles in your kiddie pool in the backyard".
Bryce: "No, it's not the same. I really wanted to swim in the elephant pool."
Me: "I'm really sorry, Bugs, I wanted you to swim there, too. I will see if I can find a different pool."
So, we headed home and, once there, I hit the internet. Sure enough (thank GOD!) the spray park down the road is still open through the weekend. We loaded back up and headed there. They played for a good 2 hours before telling me they were ready to go home. As we got to the truck, I told them that Daddy was coming home and he was going to take them out to dinner while Mommy went to an Avon meeting. They were excited and chattering about where they wanted to eat. (ok, Bryce was making suggestions and Brady was saying "UH HUH!" to all of the offers for food.) I sat them on the front seat of the truck to put them in their clothes, all the while wishing I didn't have this meeting to go to, so I could enjoy the fun with my guys. As I was helping him put his shorts on, Bryce leaned over and squeezed his arms around my neck.
"You're the best mama in the whole wide world. I love you to the moon and back."
I was too choked up to respond with more than tons of kisses and an "I love you too, Buggie."
We finished up dressing and, apparently, Brady couldn't let his brother out do him. I picked him up off of the seat, after putting his diaper on him, to help him with his shirt and he started to rub my arms. "Mama ma" "mmmmmm" as he puckered up for kisses. I leaned down to kiss him and he stroked my face and just said "Mama". I think that was "Love you" in Brady-ese. "I love you, too, Bubba."
I was fighting tears the whole way home. And now, I will remember it forever, especially on those tougher than normal days when I am pulling my hair out. One. At. A. Time.

Kama, I love it. Even Papa read it today and had to clean his glasses afterward. Thanks for sharing. We love you.
