My baby is FOUR today!

Today was Bryce's fourth birthday. That means that 4 years ago, I sat and stared at this tiny, red, wrinkled little body in sheer amazement that I could actually make something so beautiful. So perfect. In the moment that I first laid eyes on him, my entire world changed. Travis and I had tried for so long to have a baby. My heart YEARNED for a little one to nuzzle close to my breast, and at last, my dream had come true. He was everything I had ever imagined he would be and more. The absolute perfect outcome of Travis and my love for each other. I was in awe. Better yet, I was spellbound and starstruck. The past four years have certainly been a learning experience, but the good has FAR outweighed the bad. His first year went by like lightening, and the terrible twos felt like they would never end, but end they did, into some pretty awesome threes. I can't wait for the fabulous fours! My perfect and sweet baby is now a perfect and, still sweet but a little sassy, preschooler who never lets a day go by without making his mama laugh. I love you to the moon and back, my love bug!

Since the weekend was so busy, I have to post that we had Bryce's birthday party this past Saturday. It was the most fun I think we have ever had as a family (barring, of course, the trip to California this summer). We went tubing at Great Bear (check it out out
http://www.greatbearpark.com/). The squeals of joy as we raced down hill after hill, and Bryce's shouts of "again, again!" made the entire, exhausting day worth every moment. I have pictures, and will send some emails out soon for the photbucket password, once I get them uploaded. I made Bryce's cake, and was pleased as punch when I showed it to him and he exclaimed, "oh, mama! It is just what I wanted! My boon cake!" Though he wanted his party to have a pirate theme, he wanted his cake to have balloons on it. All thanks to a commercial he saw on television for the Betty Crocker easy cake decorator's kit. I was quite nervous about embarking on the endeavor of decorating my first cake, especially one for his birthday party, where other people would actually see it. But, I have to say, it turned out pretty darn cute. Even if it hadn't, Bryce LOVED it, and that is all that matters.

We started of this morning with a trip to the doctor for his well baby check up. Stupid me thought he was not going to have to get any shots today, as I thought he was done until he turned 5 and had to get his boosters for school. Sadly, in South Dakota, they prefer to do the boosters at 4, "because they handle them better." So, Bryce ended up with four shots, two in each thigh. I had to keep Brady in the hall while they did the shots, as he was due for one himself, and it broke my heart to hear Bryce's little cry as they poked him the fourth time. It shattered when I went in the room and saw those big ole crocodile tears. I couldn't hug him close enough and tell him how sorry I was enough. After all, it is his birthday! He did get weighed and measured, too. He is 42 pounds and 42 inches. A perfect square, hee hee. After the doctor appointment, we went to lunch at his favorite fast food place, Culver's. The kid would eat there everyday, if I let him. He loves their corn dogs.

We held off on our own gifts to him (he got some from his friends at the party on Saturday) until today. After present opening, we went to dinner at his favorite restaurant "fair Pizza". It is actually the Pizza Ranch, but has a place right next door to it that has games and rides in it for kids. Bryce loves the place and asks to go all the time. After dinner and games, Travis surprised him with a trip to Toys R Us, where he got one final birthday present that he played with the rest of the night. He loves his new pirate ship, he is all boy! And, as a final treat, he is soundly sleeping next to me, as I type this in bed. His last request for the day was to get to sleep with mommy and daddy in our bed. Of course, I couldn't let him down, and it makes me feel good that, at the ripe old age of 4, he still likes to snuggle all night!
